The Weatherization Program

The Matt Urban Center’s Weatherization Department provides a program designed to reduce fuel bills and make homes more energy efficient. A first priority of the program is testing to insure a safe environment. Carbon monoxide levels as well as other hazards related to energy consumption are checked.

The home is then checked for air sealing, air quality and moisture to plot an effective plan to "weatherize" the home. The program allows for insulation, weather stripping, air sealing and in certain instances refrigerator or heat unit replacement. For work not covered by Weatherization, applicants are advised of a plan of action to correct the deficiencies.

The area covered by the Matt Urban Center for this program is the east side of Buffalo approximately bounded by Route 33 on the west and north, the city line on the east and the I-190 to the south.

NHS of South Buffalo serves the remaining portion of the City of Buffalo.

There are income guidelines. The income is determined by household size and income amount and source. Single and multi unit homes may qualify. Both homeowners and renters may apply. Landlords may be required to contribute to the Weatherization investment.

This program is funded by the US department of Energy through the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal. Additional funds are procured through the US Department of Health and Human Services.
